DOE Order 435.1 Performance Assessment
Hanford Site
The Meeting Summaries for Development of the Hanford Site C Tank Farm
Performance Assessment cover informal discussions between representatives of
the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),
the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and the Washington State Department
of Ecology (Ecology) and involvement with Tribal Nations, State of Oregon,
and the Hanford Advisory Board to support DOE’s preparation of a new performance
assessment (PA) for the Hanford Site C Tank Farm (CTF). These discussions
will include the underlying assumptions, input parameters, and modeling approaches
to be taken in developing this assessment. These working sessions are
intended to facilitate preparation of a performance assessment that meets the
needs of each of the agencies. Once completed, the CTF PA document will undergo
review by the NRC, Ecology, and EPA. DOE prepares a summary of each of the informal
working sessions.

DOE O 435.1 requirements and guidance (including DOE G 435.1-1, "Content and Format
of a DOE Performance Assessment") will be the primary driver in the development of the
CTF PA. Additionally, these tanks will be closed in coordination with Ecology and
EPA in accordance with the Hanford Federal Facility Agreement and Consent Order.
Currently, the Department of Energy-Hanford Site (DOE-ORP) is drafting a PA for
their CTF. The CTF PA encompasses the closure of the entire CTF and will not be
finalized until late spring of 2012.
