Appendix C - Recently Declassified HEU Inventory Information

As part of the Secretary of Energy's Openness Initiative, a considerable amount of information regarding the Department's inventories of nuclear materials has been declassified since 1993. The location and form of the highly enriched uranium which is surplus to the needs of DOE National Security programs was released on February 6, 1996. A significant portion of this material is contained in spent nuclear fuel; small amounts are also in use for non-national security programs. However, these data approximate the inventory of highly enriched uranium which meets the definition of Materials in Inventory as used in this report.
