11/07 - Technology Maturation Plan (TMP) Wet Air Oxidation (WAO) Technology for Tank 48H Treatment Project (TTP) Adobe PDF Document This assessment determines the technology maturity level of the candidate Tank 48H treatment technologies that are being considered for implementation at DOE’s SRS - specifically Wet Air Oxidation.
11/07 - Technology Maturation Plan (TMP) Fluidized Bed Steam Reforming (FBSR) Technology for Tank 48H Treatment Project (TTP) Adobe PDF Document This assessment determines the technology maturity level of the candidate Tank 48H treatment technologies that are being considered for implementation at DOE’s SRS - specifically Fluidized Bed Steam Reformer System.
08/07 - Technology Maturation Plan for the Waste Treatment and Immobilation Plant Adobe PDF Document This TMP identifies eight technologies that require further maturation based on the results of three TRAs for the Hanford WTP facilities.
07/07 - SRS Tank 48H Waste Treatment Project Technology Readiness Assessment Adobe PDF Document This TRA determines the technology maturity level of the candidate Tank 48H treatment technologies being considered for implementation at DOE’s SRS - specifically WAO and FBSR as candidates for Tank 48H processing.
03/07 - Technology Readiness Assessment for the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) Analytical Laboratory (LAB), Balance of Facilities (BOF) and Low-Activity Waste Vitrification Facilities (LAW) Adobe PDF Document This is a TRA for three Hanford WTP facilities; LAB, BOF, and LAW. The purpose of this assessment was to determine if the maturity of critical technology elements is sufficient to be incorporated into the final design of these facilities.

External Technical Reviews

For additional information about a particular file, mouse over the Magnifying Glass for a high level summary of the document.
09/09 - External Technical Review for Evaluation of System Level Modeling and Simulation Tools in Support of Hanford Site Liquid Waste Process  Adobe PDF Document
06/09 - Evaluation of System Level Modeling and Simulation Tools in Support of Savannah River Site Liquid Waste Process  Adobe PDF Document
12/08 - Office of River Protection Signed Final Letters to Congress  Adobe PDF Document Exit EM This is a letter from Acting Assistant Secretary for EM to various congress persons requesting that DOE provide a report to Congress presenting a defined strategy for liquid low-level (low-activity) waste at Hanford, including a reassessment of the need for the demonstration bulk vitrification project.
11/08 - System Planning for Low-Activity Waste (LAW) Treatment at Hanford  Adobe PDF Document Exit EM DOE evaluates and selects options that improve the effectiveness and efficiency of tank waste treatment mission at Hanford, while considering the full life cycle of the planned tank farm and WTP operations. This review focused on three primary areas - review the plans for Alternative Supplemental Treatment of LAW at Hanford, review the ORP path for LAW disposition, and provide preliminary evaluations of a third LAW melter.
10/08 - Savannah River Site: Plutonium Preparation Project (PuPP) at Savannah River Site  Adobe PDF Document This paper reviews the PuPP, which is to prepare for disposition of approximately 12.8 MT of plutonium materials. The review is to verify that the assumptions for approval of the PuPP are sound including the planning to process the material, programmatic considerations, and cost estimates.
08/07 - ARROW-PAK  Adobe PDF Document The WIPP has defined standards for containers transporting waste. Some of the waste destined for WIPP cannot be shipped in the TRUPACT-II or HalfPACT shipping containers because it generates or has the potential to generate hydrogen gas that exceeds the limits set by the NRC. The ARROW-PAK container was designed to provide a payload container for high-wattage CH-TRU waste, but recent estimates have questioned the need for the container. This review evaluates the container and the TRU waste inventory that could use it.
07/07 - Caustic Recovery Technology Adobe PDF Document This document further reviews a potential sodium hydroxide recovery technology-an electrochemical process that uses an inorganic membrane technology to recover concentrated sodium hydroxide from alkaline wastes typical of decontaminated ion exchange effluents from the Hanford WTP. The review looks to determine if the technology could be integrated into the WTP mission.
01/09/07 -Savannah River Site - Salt Waste Processing Facility: Briefing on the Salt Waste Processing Facility Independent Technical Review Adobe PDF Document This is a presentation outlining the Salt Waste Processing Facility process, major risks, approach for conducting reviews, discussion of the findings, and conclusions.
11/22/06 - Savannah River Site - Salt Waste Processing Facility Independent Technical Review Adobe PDF Document This report reviews the Preliminary Design of the SWPF, with a focus on evaluating the technical sufficiency of design to support development of a baseline cost and schedule (Critical Decision-2 [CD-2]) per DOE Order 413.3A. The scope includes (1) Civil/Structural Design, (2) Facility Safety, and (3) Engineering.
09/28/06 - Hanford ETR Bulk Vitrification System - Demonstration Bulk Vitrification System (DBVS) Review Report Adobe PDF Document Expert Review Panel (ERP) to review the current status of the DBVS. ERP concluded that bulk vitrification is a viable technology that requires additional development to determine its potential applicability to treatment of a portion of the Hanford low activity waste. Report lists primary objectives.
08/10/06 - Savannah River Site - Tank 48 Transmittal Letter of SRS Tank 48 Review Adobe PDF Document This letter reviews the Path Forward for Savannah River Site Tank 48 and outlines best judgement on all issues and recommendations on how to procede.
08/10/06 - Savannah River Site - Tank 48 SRS Tank 48 Review Report Adobe PDF Document This review assesses the technical viability of the current Washington Savannah River Company (WSRC) path forward for resolution of the long-standing problems posed by the tetraphenylborate (TPB) contamination in SRS HLW Tank 48.
